Who needs dots?
In this session Richard Michael will give a practical demonstration on how to create an instant composition/arrangement for any group of instruments of mixed ability using a few simple techniques such as ostinato/riff/vamp.

In his pioneering work with Fife Youth Jazz Orchestra he has shown how an understanding of form, rhythm, transposing instruments and the ability make up simple tunes over a minimalist accompaniment can lead to players of all abilities playing together without notation.

In his session he will create pieces in baroque, swing, Latin and Scottish grooves!

This session is suitable for young people (15-17), students, teachers and adults. Participants should have an instrument with them or be able to sing along. Please note this session is open to over 18’s and we recommend younger players are accompanied by a parent or guardian.
