Lizzie Rowland Viola
Lizzie Rowland is a British violist from South Northamptonshire, currently in her first year of postgraduate studies at the Royal College of Music (RCM) in London studying with Professor Jonathan Barritt. She completed her undergraduate degree at The Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama (RWCMD) in Cardiff having been awarded a scholarship to study under Alex Thorndike.
During her time at the RWCMD Lizzie enjoyed playing in all the college orchestras and ensembles. As a soloist, she has performed in various masterclasses including with Becky Jones, Nancy Johnson, and Dorothea Vogel. In her final year, Lizzie undertook a student placement in the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. She also took pleasure in singing with the BBC National Chorus of Wales whilst living in Cardiff and performed with them in a performance of John Adams’ ‘Harmonium’ at the BBC Proms in 2023.
She is delighted to be an Instrumental Ambassador for the Benedetti Foundation this year and hopes to absorb as much as contribute to the amazing things the Foundation does.
Lizzie plays on a copy of a Gasparo da Salò viola loaned to her by the Benslow Instrument Loan scheme.
