Kiana Umali Garvey Violin
Kiana Umali Garvey is a Filipino-American violinist from Southern California with a passion for musical collaboration and social advocacy, striving to contribute to making the classical music world a more inclusive space for individuals of all cultures and backgrounds. She holds degrees from the Royal Northern College of Music, Boston Conservatory at Berklee, and California State University, Fullerton, having studied with Gina McCormack, Katie Lansdale, and Ernest Salem, respectively. Kiana has received mentorship from members of the Manchester Camerata, Pacific Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Talich Quartet. Furthermore, she has performed in masterclasses for Ning Feng, Paul Kantor, Irina Muresanu, Adrian Anantawan, Jan Talich, Rhonda Rider, Judith Eissenberg, Gwen Hoebig, Carolyn Huebl, Stacey Wetzel, Haik Kazazyan, Wanchi Huang, and Igor Gruppman, among others. Notable performance venues include Cadogan Hall, Boston Symphony Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Sanders Theater, Segerstrom Concert Hall, La Madeleine, Château de Chantilly, and Chartres Cathedral. Recent performance highlights include participating in the 2023 Borromeo Music Festival in Altdorf, Switzerland, where she premiered Variation and Repetition by LA Phil composition fellow Bryan Chiu, alongside faculty members. She was also a fellowship recipient at the 2022 Mostly Modern Music Festival in Saratoga Springs, New York. Dedicated to cultivating a welcoming environment for students and audience members, Kiana aspires to connect compassionately and musically with others as a performer, collaborator, and educator. She currently resides in London, and is delighted to be a Benedetti Foundation Instrumental Ambassador for the 2024 season.
