Sze Man Joyce Lee Violin
Originally from Hong Kong, Joyce started her violin journey at the age of five. Throughout the years, she has enjoyed collaborating with other musicians and leading in youth orchestras. She has worked with acclaimed ensembles such as the Shanghai String Quartet, Orion String Quartet, Endellion String Quartet etc. During her studies, she had the privilege of playing side-by-side with the Hong Kong Philharmonic and the London Symphony Orchestra.
Joyce's commitment to musical exploration has taken her to music festivals in the U.S. and Europe, where she engaged in masterclasses with Jan Mark Sloman and Solenne Paidassi. She had also been co-principal for the Esker Festival Orchestra. Having lived in and travelled to different countries, Joyce believes that music is a universal language that transcends cultural boundaries, bringing people together. She is passionate about using music as a tool to engage the public in an inclusive manner. Her belief in the transformative power of music extends to her active involvement in community service, including performances in charity concerts as a member of the SAR Philharmonic Orchestra. Post-graduation, she joined Nevis Ensemble as a fellow, where she developed her passion further for music in community settings. Her performances have brought joy to diverse audiences in prisons, schools, care homes and additional support needs centres across Scotland.
Supported by scholarships, she completed her Bachelor of Music at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in 2021, studying under Professor Michael Ma, former Head of Strings. She then achieved her Master's degree at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, studying under Professor Simon Fischer. Currently, Joyce Lee serves as a foundation violinist with Orpheus Sinfonia and a joint Instrumental and Creative Learning Ambassador for Benedetti Foundation, continuing to explore the boundless possibilities in music.
