Charlotte Sweeney Violin

Charlotte is a violinist from Salford graduating from the Royal Northern College of Music this year, taught by Julia Hanson. She enjoys a varied career as both a music educator and freelance performer. Charlotte performs regularly in RNCM orchestras, including Symphony Orchestra with Sir Mark Elder, as well as ensembles around Manchester including the Northern Film Orchestra. She also enjoys playing the viola in the Jankinson Quartet, and performing at events and in competitions. Charlotte is particularly interested in studying and performing underrepresented musical works, especially those by female composers, and recently undertook a musicological study of Swedish romantic composer Amanda Maier’s Violin Concerto. Earlier this year, she took part in the RNCM Children’s Opera project, working in partnership a primary school to compose music for an opera inspired by “The Snow Queen”. Charlotte is also passionate about breaking down barriers to music education. She teaches for local music services and, this year, established her own Whole Class violin tuition project to encourage uptake of music lessons at a local school. She is looking forward to tutoring at the RNCM Young Strings Summer School, and applying for her master’s degree in the coming year. Charlotte has been a Creative Learning Ambassador at the Benedetti Foundation for two years, and her highlight has been the Bolton Benedetti Sessions, where she worked with the beginner orchestra and improvised with the Ayoub Sisters!
