Charlotte Perkins Violin
Charlotte Perkins is on a mission to bring more music to more folks.
Now a Masters student in Violin Performance at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Charlotte moved from the Northeastern U.S. in 2017 to pursue her undergraduate degree in International Relations at the University of St Andrews. She graduated with honours of the first class in 2021. She no longer studies geopolitics, but academic rigour and intellectual inquiry remain central to her work as a musician. Current research interests include 18th- and 19th- century performance practices, the role of music in society, and violin pedagogy.
In January 2023, Charlotte and three colleagues from the former Nevis Ensemble founded Haver Quartet, a string quartet committed to fun, imaginative programming, community connection, and engaging performances. Highlights of the quartet’s work to date include performance tours of public spaces in Edinburgh and Glasgow, a Creative Scotland-funded children’s literacy-and-music project delivered in schools across Scotland, and appearances at the 2024 Celtic Connections Festival.
In between degrees, Charlotte worked as an orchestral administrator for the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, where she convened and facilitated the SCO’s Youth Advisory Council, researched and wrote for the SCO Insights programme, and supported the organisation’s community residencies.
In the coming months, Charlotte looks forward to performing with the RSNO, Haver Quartet, and plenty of RCS projects, including a Spring 2025 performance of Mozart’s A Major violin concerto, to be directed from the violin.
